Presentationpublication .listelement.badge Open Access Air cargo strategies(2017-04-27) Dewulf, W.Introduction about a research project which categorized cargo airline’s strategy from a sample of 47 airlines from all over the world, using cluster analysis methodology to identify 7 different cargo strategies: 1) Cargos stars, 2) Large Pax wide-body operators, 3) Carpet sellers, 4) Premium air cargo operators, 5) Strong regionals, 6) Basic cargo operators and 7) Huge americans. For a successful Istanbul cargo hub he recommended to have a strong long haul passenger home cargo carrier with cargo strategy in place and focus on the growing parts of cargo as e-commerce.Presentationpublication .listelement.badge Open Access Istanbul new airport and cargo city(2017-04-27) Nergiz, A.Abdullah Nergiz, who is the current marketing director of İstanbul New Airport, began his speech by summarizing the shift of economy from west to east and effects of this shift on aviation. He stressed the need for a new airport in İstanbul. Then he continued his presentation by introducing the tender of New İstanbul Airport: IGA. IGA is a consortium which comprises 5 different companies and each company has 20 percent share in the project. Project has 4 different phases and each phase will be triggered by the passenger numbers. Project’s first phase is going to be completed by November 2018 and the capacity will be 80 million passengers per year. When the airport reaches that 80 million passengers per year, they will start to build the 2nd phase. After completing the all four phases, airport will have 6 runways, 2 terminal buildings and the capacity for 150 million passengers per year. Project has secured for 4,5 billion Euros credit from banks and also shareholders invested 1,5 billion euros. This total 6 billion euros will be enough for the construction of first phase. Also tender – IGA – already started to make commercial agreements with duty free companies, cargo companies and airlines.PresentationPublication Metadata only Keynote speech(2017-04-27) Gençtürk, Esra; Business Administration; GENÇTÜRK, Feride EsraOzyegin University’s Rector as one of the most loyal attendees of the Istanbul Hub Seminar made its third Keynote Speech. She stressed two of the main objectives of the Seminar, in line with the university vision and mission: Firstly, combining academia, industry and students to discuss the developments of Istanbul as an aviation centre; Secondly, complementing education for students taking place in the classroom with more academic and industry activities like this seminar. Dr. Gençtürk reviewed the topics touched on the previous editions: In 2015 edition How Istanbul was becoming an Aviation Centre; In 2016 edition looking at the strategies of airlines in Istanbul with the new airport; and and this 2017 edition by looking at the air cargo and logistic strategies for Istanbul hub.Presentationpublication .listelement.badge Open Access MNG Group and airlines introduction(2017-04-27) Tasus, H.MNG’s Commercial Director Hasan Tasus started his speech by thanking our faculty and MNG Airlines for the event. He went on to introduce MNG Group and gave detailed information about the company. We learned that MNG Group operates in many different industries. We also learned that MNG is a full-freighter airline founded in 1996. Mr Tasus then gave detailed information regarding the cargo operations his company is doing. He explained MNG’s hub-and-spoke system through Istanbul Atatürk Airport (IST) and their co-operations with other airlines in different countries. He also told us about their truck network based in Europe. A combination of competition and collaboration among the two Istanbul airports was considered a good approach to develop the Istanbul Air Cargo Hub as the geographical location is there and very soon the extra capacity. Customs recent achievements were mentioned, but still some way to go if aiming to become a world class hub. In the growth of air cargo, e-commerce should be paid close attention.Presentationpublication .listelement.badge Open Access The value of air cargo connectivity(2017-04-27) Noll, S.Stephane Noll started his speech by introducing IATA and giving key data about the air transport business worldwide. He then stressed the role of air cargo business in the world. Mr. Noll then emphasized the importance of air cargo for Turkey by providing some key data. Noll continued his speech by stressing the importance of digitization as a key for air cargo connectivity. He talked about the projects that IATA has been working on in order to overcome limitations against the potential of air cargo. Noll then mentioned that air Cargo is essential for integrating into global value chain by giving numbers from a study conducted by IATA. To conclude, Noll emphasized that Air Cargo customer experience through Istanbul will be critical to connect the global markets to power Turkish economy.
