ArticlePublication Open Access Effects of cultural processes on heterotopic spaces: The case of Bomonti, Istanbul(Chulalongkorn University, Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, 2022-07) Toprak, I.; Hacıhasanoğlu, Orhan; Architecture; HACIHASANOĞLU, OrhanThe cultural change model covers the cultural change processes and their effects on different spaces in the urban environment. Cultural processes constitute cultural change and may in turn alter the lifestyle of individual human beings and societies. The cultural change model for heterotopic spaces proposes that heterotopic spaces and their close environment physically change by the cultural processes that are taking place in the related society. A case study was conducted in the Bomonti region to obtain the cultural changes and their relations and effects on heterotopic spaces. The Bomonti beer factory which is defined as a heterotopic space in the region that functioned as cultural and recreational facilities, is the focus of this article. In 2015, the Bomonti Brewery was transformed into Bomontiada, which is a creative culture campus. Current theories in literary criticism support different movements in meaning studies. This paper proposes a multiparadigm approach for interpreting and knowing in architecture by employing disparate theoretical perspectives of literary criticism. The research intends to encompass intentionalist, structuralist and post-structuralist paradigms, where the textual meaning is questioned on the basis of the author, the text itself and the reader respectively. The first part elaborates on these major paradigms of literature and then provides extensive review in architectural studies.ArticlePublication Open Access University rankings on architecture and built environment: The case of Turkey(İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi, 2018-05) Hacıhasanoğlu, Orhan; Architecture; HACIHASANOĞLU, OrhanStakeholders of universities like students, faculty, administratives, prospective students and their parents; always looking at rankings of the universities to benchmark the different factors. Faculty, administrative staff and the existing students use rankings to search the quality and the status of the university and the programme, on the other hand prospective students and their parents trying to find out the best university and programme to suit their expects. This paper aim to explain the programme rankings in architecture and also architecture and built environment subjects in the case of Turkey. Istanbul Technical University and Middle East Technical University Architecture Programmes were in the first 100-150 ranks in QS Architecture and Built Environment ranking and also in the first 100 in URAP Architecture ranking in 2017 reports. The paper try to make comparision to the other architecture programmes with these two cases form Turkey on different parameters like age, academic reputation, research, number of students, country, city. The study also aims to consider a projection for the following years in Architecture programme rankings. The prospective schools of architecture which considered as new candidates for the following years also evaluated in this paper. The methodology of the paper is based on the bencharking by using different parameters. The main idea of the paper in conclusion show that these two cases from Turkey had a success story in architecture and built environment programme ranking in these two university ranking systems.ArticlePublication Open Access Urban sections(Istanbul Teknik Universitesi, Faculty of Architecture, 2015-03) Yardım, N.; Hacıhasanoğlu, Orhan; Architecture; HACIHASANOĞLU, OrhanToday, the perception of layered transportation infrastructure has to be merged with the architecture and urban design. Especially the underground transportation modes affect the grounds of the city. This study focuses on investigating the relations of grounds and the transportation infrastructure. Exploring the interaction level of urban spaces with the transportation systems in terms of their expansions below and above the ground is the problem itself. Moreover finding a relation between urban spaces, transportation hubs and their typologies and how these typologies shaping urban grounds in the transportation context. After that, İstanbul is the case area of analyzing the urban land with respect to ground and underground relations and typologies that have examined. The selected zones of İstanbul for showing the relation between ground and transportation have the major quality of being in the networks of city transportation system and these are supported by the map called ‘typology mapping’.
