Conference ObjectPublication Metadata only Extension of the virtual customer inspection for distant collaboration in NPD(IEEE, 2018-08-13) Gupta, R. K.; Üçler, Çağlar; Bernard, A.; Professional Flight Program; ÜÇLER, ÇağlarThe usage of holographic virtual customer inspections for gathering feedback during the production in the aviation industry was successfully demonstrated in Airbus, which implied the assessment of the requirements spanning the Kano dimensions and conjoint analysis of satisfaction and importance. A further extension is proposed here as a research in progress to enclose early phases in New Product Development throughout the manufacturing. Consequently, collaboration achievement is targeted here by the virtual inspection of digital mock-ups, semi-/ and finished products to enable the circulation of knowledge and exhibiting design iterations in set based models. Nevertheless, challenges are associated to the virtual inspection, which are derived from technological constraints or based on the nature of distant collaboration. An assessment of these challenges is made by means of a hierarchical aggregation to discuss conceptually the applicability of the extension, highlighting future research areas for this field as well.ArticlePublication Metadata only Remote customer interaction in frugal product development: model with customer evaluation(Inderscience Publishers, 2022) Gupta, R. K.; Üçler, Çağlar; Bernard, A.; Professional Flight Program; ÜÇLER, ÇağlarThe objective of this paper is to deliver an efficient structured methodology for spatially distributed but collaborative frugal product development to fulfil the requirements of emerging markets. The utilisation of local content, customer feedback, and preferences are respected to enable the customisation of products and attributes in the customer's environment. Virtual customer inspection tool based on augmented reality is developed and presented for remote customer interactions, recording feedback, preferences, and customisations. The developed tool enables the interaction of the customer with the product in digital, semi-finished, and finished form, which is capturing customer experiences, integrates geographical spread, and validates the product in the customer's environment. To achieve this, the tool uses intelligent decision-making with the incorporation of analytic hierarchy process, where satisfaction evaluation of the customer is used to achieve optimal requirements for frugal product development. The developed tool and associated remote virtual customer interactions are demonstrated with use cases.
