Abstract

Here we present an example of circular subsidiarity applied to cultural heritage: it is a research launched as an action of the Agenda 21 of the Province of Rome and later developed as an experimentation of participation on the territory: the work concerns the reading and the design of the landscape of the aqueducts in the Aniene valley and was carried out as part of an institutional collaboration between Province of Rome, Municipality of Castel Madama and "Sapienza" University of Rome, in a framework of large horizontal participation. This contribution is based on of a "non-picturesque" conception of landscape, where landscape is not meant what man perceives, but what man transforms by working, that is "That form that man, in the course and for the purposes of his agricultural production activities, consciously and systematically impresses on the natural landscape ». Some of the indications from the reading of the current partitions of agricultural soils are been useful for identifying the Yugeral networks in the vicinity of the path of the Aniensi aqueducts. These networks have been assumed as a model for the definition of an ordering scheme that the General Variant of the P.R.G. adopted by the municipality of Castel Madama, then transformed into a monumental archaeological constraint, prefiguring a large archaeological-naturalistic park. This park includes the routes of the aqueducts in the castle area up to the left bank of the Aniene e some properties of the Agricultural University of Castel Madama.
