I.; Wang, Q.; Management Information Systems; ÖZEN, UlaşThis chapter evaluates an approach whereby the service provider can tap into an alternative source of revenue, originating from sales of advertisements or products and channelled by the content provider in the form of sponsorship of viewing. It presents a simple economic model in which service provider congestion costs, end user (EU) bandwidth costs, and the price that the content provider must pay for sponsoring content are all determined on a per-byte basis. A key feature of the model is that the content has uncertain demand. The chapter focuses on the relationship between the service provider and a single content provider. It also presents a numerical example to demonstrate how the optimization might work in practice. The chapter indicates how the results can be adapted for the case of EU quotas. I.; Wang, Q.; Management Information Systems; ÖZEN, UlaşThe interaction of a content provider with end users on an infrastructure platform built and maintained by a service provider can be viewed as a two-sided market. Content sponsoring, i.e., charging the content provider instead of viewers for resources consumed in viewing the content, can benefit all parties involved. Without being charged directly or having it counted against their monthly data quotas, end users will view more content, allowing the content provider to generate more advertising revenue, extracted by the service provider to subsidize its investment and operation of the network infrastructure. However, realizing such gains requires a proper contractual relationship between the service provider and content provider. We consider the determination of this contract through a Stackelberg game. The service provider sets a pricing schedule for sponsoring and the content provider responds by deciding how much content to sponsor. We analyze the best strategies for the content provider and service provider in the event that the underlying demand for the content is uncertain. Two separate settings are defined. In the first, end users can be charged for non-sponsored views on a per-byte basis. In the second we extend the model to the more common case in which end users purchase data quotas on a periodic basis. Our main conclusion is that a coordinating contract can be designed that maximizes total system profit. Rıfat; Augenbroe, G.; Mengüç, Mustafa Pınar; Özuyar, Pınar Gökçin; Entrepreneurship; Mechanical Engineering; MENGÜÇ, Mustafa Pınar; ÖZUYAR, PinarAs new and retrofitted Turkish buildings adopt stateof-the-art energy efficiency measures, hidden risks associated with compromised thermal comfort and disappointing returns on investment could go unnoticed unless a building is subjected to an uncertainty and risk analysis. Standard deterministic predictions are not sufficient, as they do not capture the effects of uncertainty and variability with regard to local microclimate conditions, physical parameters, and discrepancies in the model formulations, also known as “model form uncertainties”. In this paper, we analyze the impact of uncertainty on the performance of a Turkish campus building. We examine the risk that an energy efficient design that is accepted because of the positive results of a conventional energy simulation, causes unacceptable discomfort and unsatisfactory returns on investment. The results of a comprehensive uncertainty analysis shows that these risks exist in certain areas and not in others. The predicted annual output of PV panels is relatively stable with only minor variability, which justifies the investment in Istanbul. Same with shading devices, which lead to a satisfactory internal rate of return under uncertainty. However, with regard to comfort we find that risks could be substantial. We find that relying completely on occupants opening and closing windows for fresh air with fan coil units maintaining the indoor temperature may lead to an insufficient supply of outdoor air for occupants and a substantial risk of overheating. Overall, the results of the analysis demonstrate that understanding risks is in some cases crucial to make an informed design decision regarding various energy saving design strategies.ArticlePublication Open Access Multiparticle correlations and higher order harmonics in pPb collisions at √sNN = 8.16 TeV(Elsevier, 2019-02) Wang, Q.; Sirunyan, A. M.; Işıldak, Bora; The CMS Collaboration; Natural and Mathematical Sciences; IŞILDAK, BoraThe elliptic and higher-order azimuthal anisotropy Fourier harmonics (v(n)) are obtained for pPb collisions at root s(NN) = 8.16 TeV over a wide range of event multiplicities based on multiparticle correlations. The data were collected by the CMS experiment during the 2016 LHC run. A sample of peripheral PbPb collisions at root s(NN) = 5.02 TeV covering a similar range of event multiplicities to the pPb results is also analyzed for comparison. The ratios of different harmonic moments are obtained for both v(2) and v(3) with high precision, which allows a direct comparison to theoretical predictions assuming a hydrodynamic evolution of the created medium with initial-state density fluctuations, particularly probing the non-Gaussian nature of initial-state fluctuations in small collision systems.
